Sophie Min's first jazz orchestra album 'Bellwether', released in May 15th, 2020. Sophie’s evolving body of musical output showcases a wide range of jazz arranging techniques, and has been influenced by orchestrations from classical chamber music, electronic and traditional Korean rhythmic application. Together, Sophie creates a modern vocabulary and a new exploration of the ‘jazz orchestra’ idiom.

1 Time is On

'Time is On' is a lyrical composition that has captured an initial discovery of trust and hope. This track is about an expectation for forward-looking emotion and it emphasizes its distinctive sounds through these collective musicians and improvising works. This piece came up with a single authentic/pentatonic kind of melody across a beauty of Korean heritage and it also includes exciting call and response movement but surrounded by chamber jazz, which creates unique atmosphere. The entire body of the song carries through its story-telling into 4 different gratitudes of juxtaposition.

5 Bellwether

This piece addresses my artistic voice which came from an imaginative journey of the wild road of Messiah. It expatiated the story along with the fertile sound of strings and 4 horns and those great varieties of harmonic adventure reveals the secret of one's true character. I especially wanted to embrace the advantages of string ensemble by using the length of notes and breath.
